India needs more Pataudis for nation building than mukhotas on brand building exercise for vote

When we see a spate of fasting and feasting happening around India - we wonder in humor, perhaps our FMs at centre and states would be happy with Indian youth imbibing fasting as a fad and a health route to slimming while demand side of  food falling to match shortage in supply. There are many families who fast as a routine with one meal a day as they can't afford. The number is large. But how large is not the matter we are dealing here. What the moot point is, in a country of  millions of hungry bellies, if a healthy well fed man declares fast for a couple of days or even for a fortnight, can it become such a big issue ? Putting aside the cause what so ever noble that may be, will those millions of families sway and burst in anger if a man or a group spend lakhs to fast? Would it not strike their mind that the same money could have been better spent by feeding those families who cant afford a square meal! Here comes the media. Media picks up whom to promote and whom not. That's the tragedy of  media failing often to meet its fourth pillar role of a democracy.Media promote not always events as per national need but project chaos more often than the silent goodness seen in the backyard. Its business for media to catch eye ball at the cost of nation.. Had it been, we would have Pataudis, Amirs, Aruna Roys, Sunita Narains  covering the noise space of idiot box , rather  than by the Ravi shahstris, Lalit Modis, Rekha Sawants and the Advanis.Reader is justifiable what make these two group distinct and why India eveloping as a federal composite culture needs more followers of the firsts in bracket than the later. There would be enough time in future to deal with each one separately. Today I am here after a long gap, to record my homage of one of the finest soul of India - one of the brightest stars that Indians will dearly keep in the heart - yes, I am talking about Tiger Pataudi - Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi.

Tiger Pataudi turned into follklore hero in my teens. In the early seventies, when I was in my school in Kolkata, there were days when my grand dad would begin telling about his sports heroes - there were Hazares, Mankads, Merchants... there was this one-eyed Nawab of the field who caught my fantasy. In those days there was no TV at home. No net. No telephones. Radio was only point of contact with the distant world beyond your locality. Grandad would get excited as he would explain how after losing his eye, scored a double century. Oh what a lightning run he used to run to cover the entire cover and let not pass a single enemy ball. Grand dad used to tell his cricketing heroics on foreign soil. His grace on and off the field.

I remember Pataudi of the 74-75. I was reeling with chicken pox and bed ridden and listening to Eden's famous Bangla cricket commentary of "Kamalda" - explaining over radio with poetic verb how Pataudi struck three consecutive 4s. India won that match against an all time best west Indies team. That was long back.
4 decades after that Pataudi lived in India. We never looked upon Pataudi as a muslim mascot but a vintage Indian that spreads fragrance of good hope . .That's the image Pataudi left behind.A legacy to live with grace and dignity. I hope Gujarat's Modi's team would have a difficult game at hand if Pataudi wanted to attend  Sadbhavana Fast without a head cap. The point that comes out clearly here is - there are two Indias - one where visioners are Amirs and Pataudis who set for the Indian community a path to composite culture where all religions co-exist and not challenge each other, and there is another India of votes and fasts and rath-yatras where the true love and belief in co-existence is a publicity gimmick for economic convenience and for becoming a bigger vote catcher on a larger Indian hinterland.

Even the moon has its dark spots. In the emotive heat of eulogizing Pataudi, the media has gone blind to the fact that one court case is running where MAK Pataudi is accused of killing a life protected under Wild Life Act. With the death, curtain to the case will be drawn by the court.

We will miss Mansur Pataudi  on his expert comments on many critical issues that Indian cricket faced. That crisp one liners Pataudii was famous for, will remain with us as a treasure. And the future generations of India would show better respect PAT's soul by showing and guarding Indianness than regionalism in all walks of life and placing heart and the head above religion..

KASHMIR MIRAGE - VIEWs and COUNTERVIEWs

As the Indian delegation land in Kashmir's hot bed to find a solution, here I offer a link from Times of India web-link on the current issues boiling Kashmir and India today. It is apparent from the reading of the views, that whatever may be the instigations or compulsions for each group, the matching of wave lenth for the two group of people is an uphill task. No one group is in a mode to see and to act looking the situation from the other group's perspective.

  • Is this the same uncommon wave length, the same absence of love and affection for each other's community that led to division of India and now the water is boiling for Kashmir as one unable to see through the other's eyes?

  • Is it on one hand in-compatibility of co-existence and unsuitability of Islam to stay as a minority community with minority religion under the Hindu-majority Indian society that is creating this decades old void?

  • Is the resentment against Muslim sultanate who ruled large tracks of Indian sub-continent for many centuries, are so deep-seated in the psyche of the Hindu population that the truth about Islamic oppression turned into folklore of torture and of forceful conversion which is alive in vivid details in the active memory of Indian Hindu populations.

  • Is it the Hindu majority's conscious segregation of society in terms of upper caste, low caste and the untouchible - the injury inflicted socially in social gatherings for many thousand years that is standing between compatibility between these two groups?

  • Or is the picture gets much gloomier with the conflict and insult associated with practising of food habits - while Hindus in the region surrounding Kashmir are vegetarians who do not break bread with meat eaters on the same table and humiliate the non-veggys ?

  • Is it the right time for Indians to self introspect and find out whether is it the Kashmiri Muslims who cannot see the big picture or is it the Indian leadership who are bound by the chain called Nehru legacy on Kashmir?

  • Can we Indians focus through the magnifying glass of Kashmir and found out why India is still not made of Indians but fragmented by regionalism and by religion and get united with nationalistic flavour only when India play as a country in international sports?

  • Why Biharis and UPans get beaten up in Marathawad and those law breakers are treated by local law agents with soft corner and respect?
The above sites some of the burning issues storming the mind of Indians

VIEW represent an Indian residing outside Kashmir and of the minority Kashmiri Hindu-Sikh and the Pandits who were targeted by Islamic terror groups on support from neighbouring country to go ahead with minority clensing.

Reader's View is followed by another reader's COUNTER VIEW. This later view is nurtured by a section of Musolman Kashmiris today.

VIEW (alias Indian citizen and Kashmiri miniority view)

why did the Kashmiris not amalgamate, like the rest of us into a newly freed,
democratic nation? Ans.: The Hindu Kashmiris did! Why did the musalman Kashmiri
not accept Indianhood? After all, it was the only muslim majority state in the
new Indian union! Did it have something to do with community? faith? The ans.
is "Yes"! Why is Kashmir such a unicommunal state today? Where are
all the "Indians"? Have they been banished to other parts by
anti-nationals & ethenic cleansers? The Ans.: Yes! Was the Indian state
remiss in it's bounden duty to protect it's "Hindu"/Sikh law-abiding,
nationalist, patriotic Kashmiri citizenry? The Ans.: Yes! Was the Indian state
always illtreating the Kashmiris! The Ans. has to be no! Infact, the Indian
state actually overreached itself, beyond it's means & at a cost to other
backward regions in need of attention, to somehow try to amalgamate the
Kashmiris; this is borne out by it's not so turbulent post-independence past.
Then what has caused the present crises keeping in mind that it was manageable
before the Pakies, across the border, decided to "avenge" Bangladesh!
The fact that the muslim youth there were willing for anti-national recruitment&activities.
Is the "AFSPA" responsible for this alienation! That's the absurdest
ever question! The Ans. is an unequivocal, NO! Infact the Army has held
together a very strategic Kashmir region for India. Now the question of the greatest
importance! Does Kashmir belong only to the stone-pelters & the
anti-national goons, gangs & cessionists? NO! Can we afford another
partition? Ans.:NO! If that happens, we may as well say goodbye to the Idea of
India! At what cost shall we defeat this rouge plan, then? Ans.: ANY! Even at
the cost of the Kashmiri MBA's with open shirts? Ans.: YES! Untill they give
up!

Here is a rediff link http://news.rediff.com/slide-show/2010/feb/08/slide-show-1-kashmir-pelting-stones-for-a-price.htm offering a dfferent version of the stone pelting story as stated by Rediff News Bureau below :
Stone pelting in Kashmir valley appears to be fast turning into a lucrative 'business' for some unemployed youths offering this 'service' for a price.

Several youths are also operating 'stone pelting' cartels funded by separatist organisations and some political parties, sources say, adding that business worth lakhs of rupees is usually generated through this activity.

Details in this regard came out during extensive interrogation of a stone pelter arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police over a period of last three days.

Separatist groups, especially those owing allegiance to Pakistan-terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Tayiba, are alleged to have formed several groups comprising a minimum of dozen people, sources in the interrogation team said.

The Independence - Indian Way

We Indians often forget that each country’s independence is very unique not comparable with the rest. As I look back to recollect I come across some interesting themes connected to India’s Independence Movement:

1.Each one has passed through a host of socio-politico-economic process.India is no exception. Some of us sometimes repent that our independence is a gift of the Britishers with hardly any blood spent. That’s why, when something is received without much effort, we often rate them as of much lesser value.

2. When India fought for independence, and those part of India that really bled were undivided Punjab, undivided Bengal and undivided Maharashtra and a few other states. I would like to insist and the same can be vouched with statistics that people’s participation in non-cooperation protests against the Britishers did result in disproportionately low bloodshed and far less sacrificwe than those who took guns to fight Britishers leaving behind a career and family life. Netaji,Bhahat Singh and Chandrasekhar Azad are the best examples of Indian sacrifice.

Although each state or Indian kingdom had its own share of glory brought by a few great souls, but it is a historical fact that many of these states and their people had not got influeneced by the freedom movement. Only Gandhiji’s scheduled movements had a pan Indian face to it at times.

3. When India fought for independence, a substantial majority of the people with faith in Hinduism participated and so the movements had a natural Hindu face.

4. When India fought for independence, a sustantial majority of the people who represented the struggle belonged to the middle class and urban class [except a few of Gandhiji's movements that appealed to common mass]. So the Independence movement had more of a superficial touch and less of an active participation from the toiling mass and the am-janta who were at the receiving end of British economoc and other exploitations.

5. The political movement as a mirror of Indian society reflected the disunitiy within the society since the inception - Hindu religion was at its oppressive worst in the rural hinterland and the top echelons of Hindu society lead the political movement with the moneyed Jamindars and Indian entrepreneurs who were expecting to be the beneficiaries on British leaving the land even with a partitioned India. Hence, other religions and lower strata of Hindu religion were sceptical of the future. Jinna who was the blue-eyed boy of the Congress till the other day and a secular to all, turned to his own community to achieve welfare of his community. He perhaps had a foresight to see that undivided India was much dangerous to the minorities than a partioned India. With the trend in India unfolding during 1989 onwards, may we not presume that Jinna was not wrong in his politico-socio-religious asssessment.

We often repent about state of affairs of nation India, but we in our desire to have instant solutions must not overlook the fact that Indian democracy is only 60 years old compared to more than 200 years old democracy of USA. And we need to travel a long road of struggle to bear the fruits and prosperity reach each corner of India and every remote villages and towns where people still rot in poverty.

What are the Tasks Ahead for we Indians to make our motherland prosperous, peaceful and an embodiment of God - a garden where children of all caste, creed and religion play and share lives as Tagore and Gandhiji once dreamed. Let us swear to change India for the better -

1. Overcome the psyche of linguistic statehood in favour of Indian psyche.

2. Citizens must be more pro-active to have more and more checks and balance in the executive and judiciary process of our democracy

3. To have a highly active nationalistic independent media sensitive to corruption, anti-democracy events and anti-nationalistic mis adventures and constitution defying activities to keep executive and judiciary on toes.

4. To ensure a more fool-proof electoral process which no criminals and no corrupt officials can surcumvent to act as peaople’s representative

5. An enforcement agency which do not go for religious or linguisitic or gender based mis adventures dancing on the order of local rulers and their henchmen..

If these five tasks are sincerely accomplished , the rest of the unfinished tasks will not take much of a time to accomplish, thereby making each one of us proud Indians and our mother land INDIA as one of the best places to live on earth. Then there will be lesser stampede among the youth and the educated to reach foreign shores only to live a remorse depressed life with a synthetic smile on the face. We all know there is no substitute for your own mother and her affection for sons/daughters even if she is poor. It is my India where our many generations have lived and our future generations shall continue to live and no foreign land can match our ” Sujalam Sufalam Sashya Shamalam Ma taram..[.Bharat Mata ]… Bande Mataram” Jai Hind!!

Quest Series on Netaji's Mysterious Disappearence - Part I

Dichotomy of Netaji's classified archives and India celebrating 63 years of independence with Nehru's grand daughter-in-law holding the reigns of governance

Till the other day I was a selffish career minded office goer working in the typical babu style of snail sailing in the office garden. My life was more like a snail in a shell – frightened but secured in the protected shell.

Too much peace is not good for people as it makes people lazy. It made me one of the laziest on earth moving like a dinosour age Kolkata Tram on a slow rhythm on Ahmedabad road romanticising Kolkata and believing in the Indian indepence history as we read in our schools. But that day 2 weeks back, when the world was on a tail spin due to wikileak of American classified documents opening a cane of worms in public domain and the Anti-Osama Allied forces turned red faced, but people of the global village came to know what is the ground realities and what is a stage managed show by Anti-terror Allied forces. It exposed the hypocrisy of the American Govt vis-a-vis India and Indian interests. Next few days paper came out with details of what Headley said about Pakistan’s ISI hobnobing with Taliban and targeting American and Indian interest amongst others.

We came to know the big divider between what nations’s collective knowledge and what it should share with its citizens but keep restrains on account of various clash of multi-faceted interest. But wikileak was a American leak of classified documents.

In the meanwhile I was wondering what is the state of Indian classified archives. When I searched Google with Classified on Indian websites, taht became a day of reckoning for me as I discovered, I the lazy Indian, I the selfish Indian, I the frightened Indioan, that while Indian middle class has put the curtains around their life avenues with many Dos and many Don’ts, many a Indians are trying their best to make India what we see in the dream that it should be – like a India where all the basic rights of constitution and directive principles are followed, people of all strata are free from the wrath of caste, creed, religion and regionalism. There are high rates of literacy uniformly spread across the length and breath of independent India. There be 2- meals for all and opportunities for studies for all. The places of business are not filled with business sharks and mafia raj do not rot the nook and corner of our society. But that dream, a broken dream was shattered into pieces that day when I stole office time to get more and more into the depth of apathy shown consistently over a period of 63 years to the Forgotten Hero and the brightest star of Indian freedom struggle.

I felt all the political roads of Bengal filthy. As much filth there as it were in the nook and corner of central ministries and of the ruling political force who has given such a unified effort to scuttle the discovery of truth relating to Indian freedom’s apple of the eye Netaji – truth around Taiwan air crash and after math and where the life breathed its last breathe singing and dreaming about INDIA and INDIA only – a different India than where we live a coerced life and , I searched nook and corner of world wide web and collected hundreds of new found truths, revelations, many a inconsistencies in various statements and fact finding reports including two Govt appointed and one court directed appointment of Enquiry Committee.

In the comfort of air conditioned affluent life of central ministries with sycophants and bickering media and surrounded by gun- welding Black Cats , have we ever thought what this son of the soil’s life tried to do and almost accomplished in a scale of grandeur even Gandhijis and Nehrus could only aspire of, we cannot dream of the great sacrifice that this son of soil did with fire in his eyes and with fervour of nation’s love in heart – walking fearlessly upon the blood strained roads of WW2 from one continent to the other, above the ground and under the sea, in the hottest terrain and the coldest forests, running for cover in the broad day light and running in the darkest hour of the night – british dogs sniffing for the slightest smell of Subhash and death would come on any odd hour of life.

But Subhas showed in every turn of his eventful interactions from college compound to last pronounced fake air crash that he remained the last unconquered bastion of Indian territory floating the firsts - first Indian Legion, first provincial Govt of India, the first Indian head of Provincial govt, the first Indian national flag hoisted in Kohima and Moirang, the first Indian currency ….Had the front line few leaders of Congress back home were more liberal than being influenced by aroma of Mr. And Mrs Mountbaten and had Gandhiji been more realistic and became a truly secular leader than a Hindu religious follower abiding with the dream of Ram rajya and had Gandhiji reduced his admiration for everything that was British including pretending to be a messiah of non-violence in organishing Indians to join British militarty to join the world war I , and the dichotomy of Gandhiji being pretending to be democratic while playing tricks from the background to create road blocks for democratically elected INC president Netaji from assuming presidentship for the second term.

There are many ifs and buts…..Now world global village of information knows despite the Congress’s Herculean concerted effort under the invisible direction of a family that assumed royalty within democracy, that IF Netaji was allowed to continue as Presedent of Congress, the forces that would rule for independence would be a different force and a different breed than the one we are witnessing in the last 63 years.

And it would be foolish to ignore Jinnah’s statement that had Subhash been at the helm of Congress, Jinhah would not go for Pakisthan and in the process the South asia would not have faced the tragic loss of many a unaccounted millions of life and many a million destruction of dreams. At this critical time in history what we witnessed was Gandhiji’s selective fasting to control Hindu rioters while on a not a single instance going for a fast to disuade Muslim rioters as history of nation shows that he was not that giant stalwarth to command unflenching trust of majority of Muslims or even the Muslim leaders like Jinnah who became the “father” of another section of Indian population in the western front and in a part of eastern front of erstwhile India.

A nations chart its own destiny that always is unique. The people who collectively take reigns of the nation make the nation as we want it to be. One fact is clear in the whole saga of Subhas mystery that those who cannot honour their freedom fighters and their nation builders, cannot be of no good to the society. When the rulers negate the great sacrifices, and feel that they will rule the nation by reigning on the media and by acting as a conduit for a minority of large capital owners, then I can assure that either they change their policy or people make change in the ruling power to be.

If the Central Ministry has at all self respect then they should come out and declassify the reports demanded by various trough finding groups whether through the RTI process or otherwise. While Nietaji’s truth are slowly showing the light of the day through the private efforts of a few Indians who are filing application under RTI in India as well as in the USA and as the private zeal to collect info and evidence take momentum and people are re-looking at the Congress and the pitiable dirty game plan played in broad day light, time has come when Congress must come clean by letting the truth be out or people will try to look for a change in ruling that promises to declassify all Netaji related classified records and that assure to be truly proactive in bringing to lights from the archives of Russia, Britain, USA, Japan, German and other countries and let Subhas the greatest son of Mother India rest in peace with fullest national honour bestowed the GoI’s official machinery.

While commemorating 64th day of Independence let us take wath that we, the people of India be vigilant that rulers of the nation do not take the people of India for a ride with their 63 years oiled infested machinery of governance. Transpareency and equitability be the only two words by which each one judge the others.

My sincere acknowledgements to various private initiatives who stood firm against all odds and a apathetic central govt and been able to shed new lights into the tragic mystery of our greatest national hero.

I as an Indian and as a noble duty to the greatest and sweetest Indian soul ever born here, I have made a compilation of all the facts, rare pictures, videos, group websites, solo websites, newspaper investigations, individual investigations, including images of the rare flag and currency of INA .

On this 64th day of independence I wish to dedicate these info for study and review by my countrymen with a prayer that the evil axis within India blocking the truth about Netaji to reach the masses get defeated soon. Let our country be flowered with thousands of truthful fiercest patriots like Subhas Chandra Bose.
